Mollie Mogridge – Florist & Café Co-owner

Helena Nuttall

“Pamplemousse is a vibrant flower shop and café, selling a variety of cut flowers, plants, vases, coffee, cakes and bread.”

How did Pamplemousse come about?

Myself and Hanna have always dreamt of opening our own flower shop, both having completed floristry courses in local colleges and gained experience working in florists since school. We both had our own companies, mainly catering for weddings, we often free-lanced for each other during the busy summers, so we thought, why not combine together as a team and open a shop. We both love flowers and food, so we thought we would combine the two, hoping we would stand out from the rest.

Is there anything you wish you had known when you were starting out?

I think we would have loved to have known about a global pandemic before opening ha ha!!

What keeps you motivated on a day-to-day?

We are just so passionate about flowers, we love seeing seasonal flowers come through the door, we get very excited when our lovely customers come in and let us create a beautiful bouquet for them.

What have been the highs and lows of starting a business during a pandemic?

We opened and had a crazy busy time catering for Mother’s Day, then we had to shut immediately after, so it was a huge high to a low-low, in a matter of hours. We then started offering contactless deliveries of bread, baked goods and tulips, and we were so so thankful to all our local customers who kept us going through a very tough time.

Do you have any advice for people who have recently been made redundant or are struggling to find a job as a result of the current circumstances?

My advice would be, stay positive, it may seem hard now but things always have a way of working out in the end. We have been in that worrying position and we are now fully opening and functioning.
