The 6 Habits That Will Transform Your Life Before 8am

S – Silence

Many of us despise mornings for being manic and stressful. The shrill of our alarm clock sends us into a frenzy as our minds start frantically mapping out of all that has to get done, whether we will be able to get it all done and what will happen if we don’t. We check the news which tends only to add to our state of despair as we grab a coffee before rushing out the door.

Elrod asks us to transform our mornings by instead associating them with words such as ‘calm,’ ‘peaceful’ and ‘rejuvenating.’ By allocating time to being silent, we would achieve a sense of clarity, leaving us much more focused and self-aware and in a much better state to start the day.

He advocates practices such as meditation and prayer to perform this task of ‘silence.’

A – Affirmations

A lot of us, as we take on the essential tasks of our day, lack of a sense of purpose. It is easy to slip into autopilot, and from then on everyday appears to merge and any prospect of progression ceases. By creating positive affirmations that we repeat to ourselves every morning, we will begin everyday with the reminder of our goals, and how we intend to get there.

Elrod’s five steps for writing affirmations are:

  1. What we really want
  2. Why we want it
  3. Who we are committed to being to attain it
  4. What we’re committed to doing to attain it
  5. Add inspirational quotes and philosophies

V – Visualisation

Visualisation is to help us put into practice our affirmations by imagining what our success will look or feel like before we have actually got there. By taking a moment of our mornings to visualise what our lives could look like if we were to shake up our habits and put in the hard-work, we would start our day feeling motivated and hungry for success.

E – Exercise

It is needless to say that the benefits of exercise have been practiced and proven, and there is no reason why we shouldn’t all experience the positive endorphins that many others do. By raising our heart rates and getting our blood flowing in the morning we will not only begin the day with a clearer mind, but also improve our energy levels for the rest of the day.

R – Reading

There is no quicker way to obtain knowledge than by picking up a book. By setting ourselves the manageable task of reading for even 5 minutes of the day, after a year we would have spent 1825 minutes reading. As Mark Twain says ‘A person who won’t read has no advantage over one who can’t read.’

S – Scribing

By writing a little bit everyday, we will be able to let off steam and direct our focus.

Journalling is an invaluable method for documenting:

  • insights
  • ideas
  • breakthroughs
  • realisations
  • successes
  • lessons learned
  • opportunity for personal growth / improvement

What if you could miraculously wake up tomorrow and find that any – or every – area of your life was transformed? What would be different? Would you be happier? Healthier? More successful? Would you have more energy? Less stress? More money? Which of your problems would be solved? What if there was a ‘not-so-obvious’ secret guaranteed to transform any area of your life faster than you ever though possible? And what if it only took you 6 minutes everyday?
