Ellie Birch interviewed by Helena Nuttall
I met Ellie three years ago during freshers’ week at Oxford Brookes University. We’ve been great friends ever since and have worked on many projects together. So that you all have a chance to get to know one of the girls behind The Notable Blog, I’ve interviewed her this week.
Tea or Coffee?
Definitely Tea! A big mug of hot tea is the first thing I reach for in the morning.
Morning or Evening?
I am a night owl for sure. I have always worked better in the evenings.
Sweet or Savoury?
Crisps, crusty bread and cheese… I love savoury foods. Yum!
Dogs or Cats?
I do have a soft spot for dogs. Particularly my 13-year-old Chocolate Labrador, Buttons.
Phone Call or Text?
All of my friends are well aware that I love a phone call or two. I feel that calls are so much more friendly and personal than texting.
Summer or Winter?
Oooh hard question… I love all seasons. I think I do lean towards winter though; you can’t beat snuggling up with a hot chocolate in front of a roaring fire after a crisp, frosty walk.
Chocolate or Vanilla?
Some may say it is boring, but I prefer vanilla – it literally goes with any sweet treat!
Do you like or dislike surprises?
I LOVE SURPRISES! I think it is amazing when someone puts thought into an idea or gift.
What did you want to be when you were little?
I always loved people and making people happy. So, I wanted a career where I was interacting with people. If only I had been a better dancer – my ballerina fairy dream may have become more of a reality – HAHA!
If you could live anywhere, where would you live?
I enjoy travelling but I am actually really proud to live in England. I love British traditions and being close to my family. I am really torn between Birmingham and Oxford. Birmingham is my hometown and Oxford is where I studied.
What is your favourite accessory?
Headbands! Headbands! Headbands! I think they are the perfect accessory with any outfit, and I have collected around 15 different styles.
Is there anyone who really inspires you?
I am inspired by many people so I don’t think I could choose one. However, I am most often inspired by successful businesswomen and female entrepreneurs.
If you could have a tea party with 3 celebrities, who would you invite?
Firstly, I love vintage style. So, I would absolutely adore a tea party! But, in terms of who I would invite… Rosie Ramsey for her comedic personality, Louis Theroux for his fascinating stories and Stacey Dooley for her quirky, chatty character.
What motivates you day-to-day?
Generally, I am a very self-motivated person. I love seeing the results of hard work. When I am able to look back on each day and feel as though I have been productive and that I have worked as hard as I could…it spurs me on to become more efficient and achieve my goals. Recently, I have incorporated a healthy diet and regular exercise into my lifestyle. This has helped me to keep motivated within my life as a whole.
Do you have any advice for people who are struggling as a result of the current circumstances?
I am fully aware that people have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in a plethora of different ways. Whether it be mentally, financially or otherwise, I think the most important thing is for people to keep some element of normality within their day-to-day lives. We are all human and I believe that we all need some degree of social interaction. Whilst we may have to go about socialising in a different way, we are able to interact with friends, colleagues and family members via social media. Take advantage of the resources we have online and do not shut yourself off from the outside world.
Three words to sum up Ellie…
Creative, ambitious and outgoing
